Counter Culture is an education, theatre and heritage project taking place in Wolverhampton, and which is designed to create new opportunities for young people. The project will work with fifty children from two Wolverhampton schools: West Park Primary School and Penn Hall School.

The project is taking place over a seven month period, beginning with an oral history gathering process, charting the changes in local communities, and then creating a theatre piece based on these findings. Archive materials will be produced and lodged at Wolverhampton City Archives, and an exhibition will tour strategic sites in the city.

Counter Culture is an initiative of the Arena Theatre at the University of Wolverhampton, and is generously supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Sir Barry Jackson Trust, the Grantham Yorke Trust and the Edward and Dorothy Cadbury Trust.

What a brilliant project this has turned out to be. The pupils were able to focus not only on their communites but learn something about their heritage and the value of their local City Archives and Local Studies collection at Molineux Hotel Buidling.
